What Would Motivate Me?
Relocation
For over four years, since I built my home and relocated
my family to Fresno County (about 4 miles from the boundary of
Sequoia National Park), I have commuted weekly to Los Angeles to
my job as a 'PC Applications Analyst' at a top ten law firm where
I have worked for ten years.
My original intention was to find a job in Fresno fairly
quickly after moving here. Due to generally low salaries in
Fresno, a sluggish job market, outstanding technical
opportunities at my current job and other factors, this has not
happened. At my current job, I have a variety of amenities such
as company equipment at home, 9 day every two weeks work
schedule, 4 weeks paid vacation, etc. On the downside, I am
getting tired of the long commute and have yet to get a true
4-day work week.
I have extensive experience in PowerBuilder and am very
interested in their coming internet tools (especially their Java
RAD Development Environment). My firm is currently inclined to
exclusively using Microsoft tools, and they are phasing out
PowerBuilder. While I also work in Visual Basic 5.0, I would like
an opportunity to make some more use of my many years' experience
in PowerBuilder and Sybase. I would hope that the job would
include internet development and personally, I hope the whole
world moves to Java eventually!
So, what would get me to another job?
Location:
A job in the Fresno/Visalia area, even if at a lower
salary than I currently get.- Money:
A higher salary, even if in the San Francisco or Los
Angeles area.
- Preferred
Technical Environment: A firm interested in
PowerBuilder, Java and the PowerBuilder suite of tools
for intranet/internet development.
- Flexibility:
A firm where I could be at the office when I needed to be
in the office - for meetings, user interviews, etc. - and
could work elsewhere when feasible (home) would be a
MAJOR plus, no matter where the firm was located.
